THE THREE ARCHANGELS

My contemporary paintings are based on studies of the beatus of liebana. Around the VIII Century in northern Spain the monk, Beatus, wrote and painted manuscripts and commentaries on St. John the Evangelist's revelations. His commentaries and the many illustrated copies of it made after his death are known today as the beatus, a tradition of apocalyptic art that spanned centuries and was named after its founder.

Saint Michael

I bring the beatus to this century with my own unique way of viewing Christians and saints. In a radical departure from what one might expect, I depict them as happy, joyful souls. I paint on large-scale wooden panels and interpret the traditional iconography of each character with simplicity and love.
